Quilting with the letter 'B'

B is for....Batik

Batik is a type of fabric that is hand dyed into sometimes vibrant geometric fabrics. I think batik fabrics look similar to tie-dyed fabrics. Because it is hand dyed, it is typically more expensive than other quilting fabrics.

I enjoy using batik fabrics when quilting because it adds a very rich and unique feel to my pieces.

Fabulious Finds 111 Treasury

One of my quilts was included in a wonderful Treasury by one of my fellow Etsy sellers today.

Treasuries are a wonderful way to put similar items together on Etsy. It also helps sellers to promote other items that are similar to their own. They can be created by sellers or buyers on the Treasury Page. Many people consider treasuries a great way to shop Etsy.

Quilting with the letter 'A'

More than quilting I love teaching others about quilting. I used to teach a few quilting classes in Phoenix but since it's difficult to do that over the internet I am going to dedicate the next 26ish blogs posts to the ABC's of Quilting.

A is for.....Applique

Applique is a quilting technique in which one piece of fabric is sewn onto a larger fabric surface. The attachment is usually done by hand sewing the smaller piece on but there are many different techniques (for many different skill levels).

How to:
1. Decide on the shape you want to applique onto a larger piece
2. Trace the shape onto your choice of fabric
3. Cut out the shape BUT cut about1/4in outside the line you drew (will be used to create a flap)
4. Fold over the 1/4in flap and iron (this is creating a folded edge so that you do not have exposed raw edges)
5. Sew the applique piece onto your larger fabric surface

First Post!

I have had some quilts posted on Etsy.com for about a month now. I figured it was about time for me to get a blog and let the world know about them.

So, world, HERE I AM.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon taking pictures of 20 quilts (over 250 images-thank goodness for digital cameras!). I have accumulated these quits over the years and have just recently decided to sell them on Etsy. I added two of these quilts to my shop today. More to come, so check back often!
